UNSEALED 4×4 GARAGE: PROJECT RUSTY

By Tim Stanners 2 Min Read

One of the first mods most people do to their vehicles is put on a set of new tyres. Not that Rusty had any old tyres on though… but, given they’d been driving around in such a toxic environment, they were looking a bit worse for wear.

Luckily, our mates at Toyo Tires have managed to supply us with a set of their new Open Country ATII tyres to get us back on the road. So, we’re off to CC Tyres to get them fitted up. We also had a chat to Steve Burke from Toyo who gave us the run-down on tyre compounds, construction, and what makes a good all-terrain tyre.

Ben Lavis from Drivetech 4X4 helped us out with a health check last month and picked up a few little problems which will need some attention to ensure Rusty is purring like a kitten. This month, Evan gets stuck in and gives Rusty a full service; changing fluids, hoses and filters. We’ll tighten up some of the rattling and get stuck into the spongy brakes.

Ben will be keeping an eye on things – making sure we don’t get too carried away – and will give Rusty the thumbs up (hopefully) and provide us with a run-down on what needs to happen next in the mechanical make-over of Project Rusty.
