Emir’s Ford Ranger

Emir’s daily driven Ford Ranger is set up for work and play. With a love of beach camping, Emir swaps the tools for camping gear with toolboxes making the perfect storage setup. The 2.1m under-tray drawer makes a great pull-out kitchen and bench top. Emir hasn’t had the Ranger for long, so the few mods include an alloy bullbar with ladder racking and a 20-inch Ultra Vision light bar. He hopes to kit the Ranger out fully to do a Cape York trip later this year. For now though, quick weekend getaways to Double Island and Bribie Island will scratch the itch when he’s just done a long week on the tools.

TARA’S BT-50

Tara picked up her BT-50 as she wanted something safe and comfortable to drive to work during the week, but also big enough to transport her toys (like stand-up paddle boards) on the weekend. While Tara is new to 4WDs, she has already had the BT-50 out on the tracks around Lithgow and more recently took a trip to play in the best sandpit in NSW: Stockton Beach. There aren’t many plans for modifications, as the BT-50 does the job just fine as it is… especially now it has a set of roof racks and some custom scratches from getting out on the tracks.

MATT’S GREAT WALL

Matt recently picked this Great Wall X200 up for nothing. Literally! Someone gave it to him in exchange for some work… and with just over 50,000 kays on the clock, who wouldn’t take it? That doesn’t mean he has left it alone though, with some key accessories being added to improve the off-road capabilities and make it more suitable for day-to-day life. He found a Rhino Rack at the tip, bought some alloy wheels at a bargain price, and had some mates help install a Tough Dog lift kit (which Matt says has totally transformed the way it drives on and off the road, compared to the stock items). As this is Matt’s first four-wheel drive, it is great to see the bug has bitten. Welcome to a life of trawling Gumtree and never having clean clothes again…

SAM’S SERIES LANDY

Someone crueller than us once said if you want to become a good mechanic, buy a Land Rover. Well, while the sentiment is a tad mean, the fact is this has become true with Sam’s project Land Rover. He isn’t a trade-qualified mechanic, but so far he’s had a crack at rebuilding the carby including playing with jet sizes. He’s put a new dizzy in, and had the motor rebuilt (including a sports exhaust with extractors). A set of skinny 32-inch tyres fit well on Discovery steel wheels.  When asked if he was planning on painting the Series and bringing it back to its former glory, Sam made a face akin to someone who had just smashed a shot of diff oil. Nope, this Series is ageing gracefully and Sam is just fine with keeping it the way it is.
