I’m addicted to Gumtree

This time of year traditionally identifies that I have a problem. Not with booze, or overeating leftover Christmas ham (even though they go so well together). Nope, I suffer from what I’ve dubbed Compulsive Project Disorder. I just can’t help myself, I’ve basically built every four-wheel drive on the market in my head once or twice – from current models to obscure military vehicles.

Now, to put things into perspective, my main 4X4 is a GQ Patrol with over half a million clicks on it – so as you can expect it needs a fair bit of regular TLC. It’s a project on its own basically, but somehow manages to keep limping on. Then there is a Suzuki Sierra that sits in pieces. It is actually amazingly close to being finished and if history reminds me, this is the time I’ll (again) decide to sell it for a loss, only to be back online the following week looking for another one to work on. It’s a vicious cycle.

The other day I found myself looking at a Daihatsu Feroza going cheap online, only to stop myself with the simple question: “Why are you like this”? No offence to Feroza owners, naturally.

So even though I’m neck deep in expensive and time-consuming projects I would love a bike, maybe a boat, and gee it would be an experience to build a camper trailer. My addiction (thanks for listening, by the way) got me thinking: I bet Unsealed 4X4 readers would have had some amazing projects spawned from a late-night Gumtree binge. If you have made it this far, it means you are probably an addict too.

I’ll show you my projects, if you show me yours? Also, are you keen on a swap? Your project for a nearly-finished Suzuki Sierra – cash my way? No, I don’t want a VN Commodore…

What has been the best (or worst) project vehicle you have bought?
