How cool is this?! Huracan Fabrication has recently updated its fully lockable storage system that allows you to securely stow gear in the tailgate of your Ford Ranger.
The Huracan tailgate storage system now features a lid with new hinges and gas struts to keep it steady when open and the storage area has a fully carpeted interior. Huracan says the tailgate lid is at least as strong as the factory tailgate and that the Ranger offers a surprising amount of storage space in this otherwise unused area. In fact, the internal cavity measures 75mm deep x 1200mm long a 413mm wide. The internal box you can see in the photos is required for the tailgate’s handle mechanism (below) and there’s a circular cutout for models with a reversing camera in the Ford badge.
You’ll need an angle grinder, metal file, drill, basic hand tools and a little DIY knowledge to fit the Huracan tailgate storage system as some of the original tailgate needs to be removed to fit the storage compartment, but once done you’ll have a secure space to store all those things you don’t want floating around in your tub like recovery gear, first aid kits and the like.
The kits are made to order so you’ll need to allow a one- to two-week lead time prior to shipping. Huracan also points out that the tailgate storage system is not currently compatible with aftermarket central locking kits, but it is compatible with the new factory central locking kits.
The Huracan tailgate storage system is currently available to suit all Ford PX Ranger models (including Raptor) as well as the Volkswagen Amarok. Over the next few months Huracan says it will also have kits available to suit Holden RG Colorado, Isuzu D-Max, Toyota N70 and N80 HiLux (SR and SR5 models) and Nissan D40 and D23 (NP300) Navara.
