The ACCC has issued a recall on the Atem Power 3000kg Hi Lift Farm Jack.

It’s no secret that Hi-Lift jacks can be extremely useful devices when you’re out four-wheel driving, but they can also be dangerous if used incorrectly. This latest Australian Product Safety recall notice issued by the ACCC highlights some of the potential dangers, particularly if a product like this Atem Power 3000kg Hi Lift Farm Jack is incorrectly labelled and it doesn’t meet its nominated capacity requirements.

Who sold the Atem Power 3000kg Hi Lift Farm Jack?

The Hi-Lift jack was sold by Sun Yee International Trading Pty Ltd., both on the company’s website and on eBay as seller SunYeeTrading between November 2019 and February 2020.

What’s the defect with the jack?

According to the Australian Product Safety recall, the Atem Power 3000kg Hi Lift Farm Jack does not comply with the performance or labelling requirements of the mandatory standard ‘Consumer Protection Notice No. 1 of 2010 – Consumer Product Safety Standard: Vehicle Jacks’. In other words, incorrect labelling on the product or packaging “may result in misuse of the product”. It’s also pointed out that the jack does not reach 200% of the nominated capacity.

What are the hazards?

If users reach the weight limit of the Atem Power 3000kg Hi Lift High Farm Jack, the jack may bend or break, while incorrect use of the product due to the aforementioned incorrect labelling may lead to a vehicle collapsing on a consumer, causing severe injury or even death.
