Just a month after launching its upgraded HiLux range, Toyota has revealed the refreshed HiLux Rogue and Rugged X models, and the big news is prices are up by $6500 and $7500 respectively.

The refreshed Toyota HiLux Rogue and Rugged X models have just been unveiled but those keen on nabbing a top-spec Lux will now be up for an additional $6500-$7500. The refreshed HiLux Rogue will set you back $68,990 +ORC (previously $62,490) and the updated Rugged X will cost $69,990 +ORC (previously $62,490). The HiLux Rogue and Rugged X models are based on the HiLux SR5 auto model and they undergo final assembly in Melbourne – they are not yet available due to production issues brought on by Victoria’s COVID-19 restrictions but are expected to be in showrooms by the second half of November.

Like the HiLux SR5 model on which they are based, the new Rogue and Rugged X have a revised 2.8L four-cylinder turbo diesel engine that now makes a claimed 150kW of power and 500Nm of torque (auto), while maximum braked towing capacity is now 3500kg. They also score revised suspension, new styling and several other upgrades.

“The expertise of our local teams has ensured these two fully fledged models offer more power and torque, more relaxed towing and overtaking in all conditions, sharper steering and handling, and suspension refinements that deliver excellent ride quality in all conditions,” Toyota Australia’s Vice President Sales and Marketing Sean Hanley said.

“They also incorporate an in-demand array of locally designed, developed and tested components that enhance capability and style: premium features on the ‘work and play’ HiLux Rogue and serious off-road protection and recovery for Rugged X.”

HiLux Rogue

The HiLux Rogue is distinguished by a unique vertical grille that flows from the bonnet down to the prominent lower bumper and under-guard. The LED headlamps now have dark internals and the Rogue also gets aggressive fender flares, unique wheel-arch mouldings and an all-new resin sports bar. The 18-inch alloy wheels have also been redesigned, as has the rear bumper and tailgate, and Rogue now has two front and four rear parking sensors, and revised marine-grade carpet tub liner.

Other styling enhancements include more pronounced over-fenders, new jet-black 17-inch wheels and signature decals on the bonnet and rear quarter panel.

Rugged X also comes with heavy-duty front springs, a snorkel with a reversible head, red-painted front and rear recovery points, a centrally mounted LED light bar, heavy-duty rock rails, sports bar with recreational attachment points, a moulded tub tray with tailgate protection, and a heavy-duty rear bumper with integrated step.
