Meet the absolute last-resort, life-saving Flip-Flop Winch

Sometimes you’ve really got to rely on your noggin to get yourself out of strife, especially if you get stuck in the scrub somewhere without the right gear to get you out, or you’ve busted a vital piece of equipment like, say, your winch.

Of course, the first things to try when you get stuck on your lonesome include lowering your tyre pressures and clearing around your vehicle to move any obstructions, either with your shovel or your hands. If that doesn’t work you could use your Hi-Lift jack to lift your vehicle off an obstacle or, if need be, even use it as a winch to slowly drag your rig out of its stuck state.

But what are you going to do if you don’t have a Hi-Lift? Well, you could always fashion yourself a Flip Flop Winch.

Now the Flip Flop Winch isn’t excactly new but it’s an absolute ripper of a last-resort winching solution, and while it ain’t the easiest thing to construct, and it ain’t the easiest thing to use, and it most certainly ain’t the quickest method of vehicle extraction, if all else fails it could be a life-saver.

In this old Survival Sherpa video posted to YouTube in 2016, Mors Kochanski (a.k.a. the Godfather of Bushcraft) demonstrates how to make and use a Flip Flop Winch. It might be a helluva lot of hard work, but when the brown stuff hits the fan, desperate times call for desperate measures.

What do you think of the Flip Flop Winch?
