Diesel Brothers busted for breaking emissions laws

Discovery Channel’s Diesel Brothers TV show have been ordered to pay USD$851,451 for their role in building and selling modified 4X4s that broke emissions laws in Utah.

The stars of Discovery Channel’s Diesel Brothers have been ordered to pay a staggering USD$851,451 for breaking the Clean Air Act and Utah state law. Program stars, David “Heavy D” Sparks, Joshua Stuart, Keaton Hoskins, and Dave Kiley—a.k.a. “Diesel Dave” were taken to court by Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment and were found guilty of breaching emissions laws via the vehicles they modify and sell.

In addition to the fees due to the Government, Diesel Brothers are also potentially liable to pay the plaintiff’s court costs which are said to exceed USD$1 million. So, what did Diesel Brothers do? Well, according to U.S. District Court Judge Robert Shelby it stripped diesel vehicles of their pollution gear, including diesel particulate filters (DPF) and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems.

So, what prompted the case? The plaintiffs, Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment actually purchased one of the vehicles built by Diesel Brothers and had it tested, revealing it emitted 36 times more pollution and 21 times the particulate matter than if it had been running its factory-fitted pollution gear.
